The Reason is You by Hannah
As you may have noticed, February is all about being present. Take a look at what Hannah [my awesome intern] has to say about practicing mindfulness while in the busyness of college.
Presence and mindfulness tend to not resonate heavily with any college student, and I am no exception. At least, I once thought I wasn’t. I scramble through my days desperately trying to stay on top of mounds of schoolwork and endless deadlines.
Then you broke through the haze of coffee fueled study sessions, due dates, deadlines, and breakdowns at midnight (because no amount of caffeine in the world could help me pass that exam).
You have kept my feet on the ground these past three years. When my mind wanders to a million different places, you’ve always been there to bring me back down to earth; to enjoy the beauty around me. I never knew how that was possible; how one person can have such a powerful impact on someone. You have your own deadlines and curving path of life to deal with, yet you always take the time to ground me. I’m not even sure you know what you’re capable of.
A simple two-minute phone call with you takes my mind off of the impending doom of exams and the never ending to do list. I am present. You’re like a breath of fresh air in a world full of clouded conceptions. With you the hum of hectic schedules and life in general seems a little less overpowering.
With you I’m not left dwelling on the past or contemplating the future, I am here I am now, with you.
So, thank you, my Ian for keeping my feet on the ground when my head is stuck in the clouds.
