Beat the winter blues!

Got the winter blues?

I had them earlier this week. I was feeling cooped up, tired of the freezing temperatures that kept me indoors. I was dreaming of the Colorado and Florida sun and a bit irritated by the white stuff on the ground that made it impossible for us to get down our driveway.

It can be difficult to stay healthy [and happy] in the last month of winter.  Let’s face it, unless we are skiing down a hill on this beautiful white stuff, many of us are ready for warmer temperatures, green grass and sunshine.  Hang in there and try these three tips/recipes below to beat the winter blues!

1.  Bundle up and get outside, especially on sunny [or even somewhat sunny] days.  A little natural Vitamin D goes a long way.winter run

2. Eat citrus fruits. Citrus is incredibly refreshing at this time of year. Put a spin on your grapefruit with this Broiled Grapefruit recipe. I’ve served it a couple times to friends this winter and they love it!  And for grapefruit storage tips, click here.

3. And if you really need to warm up, try this warming Rooibos [red tea] Latte!  Rooibos has a robust flavor like black tea but without the caffeine [so it’s a perfect late-night hot chocolate or coffee alternative].  It is also loaded with antioxidants, calcium and zinc.  Bottoms up, my friends!
